Dezeen promotion: at this year's Clerkenwell Design Week, German furniture brand Zeitraum will launch its latest collection of office furniture, designed by Kaschkasch to be "flexible and homely".

The Rail collection is made up of a series of modular products, each easily adapted to different work situations.

Designed for Zeitraum by German studio Kaschkasch, the pieces are made from materials that evoke a homely feel as opposed to the typical office style.

"What was clear for us was that we didn't want to simply design another highly functional piece of office furniture, but rather a flexible system with a homely character," said Kaschkasch designer Sebastian Schneider.

"Rail should appear simple and casual – you should be able to easily add something, shift something, attach something, move it, or convert it to a large table."

The main elements of the flexible system are long conference tables that can connect in a row depending on the amount of space needed.

If rooms are awkwardly shaped, a further element of the collection, named Trapez, can be pieced together in different formations.

Should office workers need a more quiet and private space, the designers developed a series of acoustic tabletop screens that can be moved around and also used as pinboards.

All tables are supported by trestle-style legs, which slide under the table into a T-shaped joint and can be easily removed thanks to a quick-release clamp.

The continuous groove on the underside of the tabletop allows you to slide the trestles into any position, avoiding the problem of workers banging their legs when sat at their desk.

Rail Break, which is inserted between two table tops or at the table end, is intended to be used as a standing desk or as a breakout space for quick meetings.

To keep the office looking tidy, Kaschkasch also developed cable management systems and power points that are integrated into the wood of the table.

Zeitraum will launch the Rail collection at this year's Clerkenwell Design Week in Design Fields, which takes place from 23 to 25 May 2017.
